"Capanne" Area Excavation
The main excavation area in the municipal area is the "Capanne" area, named after the place where it is located. Studies, which are still ongoing, have ascertained the importance of Castro in the cultural panorama.
The bust of Minerva found in 2015 and the temple altar in 2017 received attention in the international press. The confirmation of the presence of the sanctuary was supported by the discovery of numerous votive statuettes. In addition to the main finds, numerous fragments of votive plates and amphorae can be admired in the civic museum located inside the Aragonese Castle. The discovery of architectural elements unearthed in the excavation areas confirm the presence of a Doric temple in the Hellenistic period.
