Grotta Palombara
Also south of Castro, proceeding towards Leuca, there is Grotta Palombara (literally Palombara cave), also located at the bottom of a large coastal niche, at the intersection of two large faults.
Formed by the collapse of boulders following the fracturing of limestones, the cave has an imposing cavity 75 meters long, 18 wide and 30 high, with a sea depth of about 10 meters.
It is nicknamed "Palummara" (Palombara), due to the presence of pigeons (palombi, pigeons in the local dialect) that nest in the limestone cavities that drip fresh water.
It is also called "Grotto with curtains", because looking at the cave from the inside out, the shape of the entrance suggests a curtain tied on the edges.
