Gold Medal
The shrine was erected in 1968 in honor of the fallen of the “FOLGORE” Paratroopers Division in the battle of El-Alamein on a project by Paolo Caccia Dominioni. In the chapel there is a majolica painting depicting St. Michael the Archangel and the statue of a bronze soldier leaning against an anti-tank cannon recovered directly from the battle sites.
The peculiarity of the monument is given by the fact that both the soldier's gaze and the cannon's mouth are directed towards El Alamein, the site of the violent battle during which the paratrooper Nino Starace, awarded with the Gold Medal for Military Valor, was wounded. Starace himself donated the land for the construction of the chapel from which there is an evocative glimpse of the marina of the Marina.
On anniversaries of the corps, the paratroop departments of the Italian Army celebrate commemorative ceremonies in the shrine in the presence of the highest officers.
